Vegan Dim Sum - Baked Pork Buns
BAKED PORK BUNS CHAR SIU BAO RECIPE
(makes 8 buns)
Filling:
- 1 can young jackfruit, drained
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons. hoisin sauce
- 1tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vegan oyster sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Chinese cooking wine
- 1 tablespoon brown rice syrup
- ¼ tsp. Chinese five spice powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic, grated
- 1/2 ginger, grated

Topping:
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Directions
- Start by tearing jackfruit into strips. Then mix everything in the filling until combined. Set aside and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Divide the milkbread dough into 8 balls.
- Using a rolling pin, roll out the balls into 5-inch disks focusing on having the edges slightly thinner than the middle.
- Fill each disk with about 2 tablespoons of filling. Bring the edges up and seal bun. Flip around having the seam side on the bottom.
- Repeat step 4 until all the buns are filled. Let the buns rest for about 1 hour.
- Brush the buns using the milkbread butter mix. Top with sesame seeds.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the buns get golden brown.
